Detailed Instructions for Proper Use of
SpeckGRABBER

Introduction
The SpeckGRABBER is a new tool designed and produced to enable the skilled amateur or professional to successfully perform cleaning tasks that were previously only possible in tightly controlled laboratory environments.

The SpeckGRABBER is a tool that allows the operator to remove individual particles from a delicate surface without damaging the delicate surface. While the SpeckGRABBER is easy to use, it must be used properly to achieve the desired results.

As with any tool, the SpeckGRABBER can produce incorrect results if it is used incorrectly. Please read and understand the instructions in their entirety, and practice on a non-critical surface before attempting to use the SpeckGRABBER in high cost delicate surfaces.

Principle of Operation
The SpeckGRABBER is a tool consisting of a handle or wand with a tip of blue copolymer plastic. The copolymer plastic has a unique property of tacky adhesion. The adhesive quality is a property of the plastic, and not due to any additive. Because there is no additive, the plastic will not leave any residue on a surface that it touches, as long as the plastic tip is not contaminated.

When the SpeckGRABBER is brought into contact with a particle (such as dust) that is resting on a hard surface, the adhesive quality of the plastic will cause the particle to be removed with the SpeckGRABBER.

It is important to note that no pressure is required to cause the particle to adhere to the SpeckGRABBER; only the lightest contact is required.

Instructions for Use
As with any tool, the more practice the user has operating it, the more skill will be attained, and the better the results obtained will be. It is suggested that the new SpeckGRABBER owner practice on a flat piece of glass or even a tabletop until he or she is comfortable with the operation and effectiveness of the tool.

The SpeckGRABBER must be clean to be effective. If unsure, assume it to be contaminated and clean it. If you have touched the tip of the SpeckGRABBER with your finger (or any other skin) it is contaminated and must be cleaned. The SpeckGRABBER is not harmed in any way by cleaning, and may be recleaned and reused indefinitely without harm. The SpeckGRABBER may be cleaned in several ways.

It may be washed in soap and warm water. If using this method, use a mild liquid dish detergent. Mix a drop or two in a glass of water and swish the tip of the SpeckGRABBER in the soapy water. Rinse well in running water and allow to dry. Do not use a towel to dry it, as most cloth will contaminate the tip with lint.

A quicker and easier method of cleaning the SpeckGRABBER is to use non-ammoniated lense cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. The SpeckGRABBER can be cleaned in these solutions in a manner similar to the method described above. The advantages to using this method are more rapid drying and better removal of oil contaminants.

An even quicker method, that requires a little practice, is to take a lint-free microfiber lens cleaning cloth, place a few drops of lense cleaner on the cloth and immediately twirl the tip of the SpeckGRABBER on the damp spot on the cloth. The cloth must be lint free and clean. Dampen a fresh spot on the cloth for each cleaning.

Whichever technique you choose, be certain that the tip of the SpeckGRABBER is dry before attempting to use it to remove dust particles. If you use it while still wet, a spot may be produced on the surface that you are attempting to clean. Once the SpeckGRABBER is clean, locate the particle that you wish to remove, and barely touch the particle with an edge of the blue tip. The particle will adhere to the SpeckGRABBER tip and is thus removed from the surface.

At this point the SpeckGRABBER is contaminated and should be cleaned again before attempting further cleaning with it.

It should be emphasized that only the lightest touch is required to remove dust particles, pressure is not required, and can endanger some delicate surfaces. A skilled SpeckGRABBER operator can remove a particle without even having the blue plastic material touch the surface on which the particle to be removed is resting.

The SpeckGRABBER should never be "swept" or dragged across a surface to clean the surface. This could cause the particle(s) to be dragged along the surface and cause scratches or marks.

The edge of the blue tip rather than the blunt surface of the copolymer plastic should be employed to touch the dust particle. This minimizes the SpeckGRABBER contact with the surface, minimizes the pressure applied to the surface, and allows superior visualization of the particle while it is being removed.

The proper technique to utilize the SpeckGRABBER is to hold it like a pencil, steadying the wrist against the work surface, and rotate the SpeckGRABBER down to the particle to be removed with a slow deliberate rotation of the wrist.

Never dab the SpeckGRABBER straight onto a delicate surface. The thin tube into which the copolymer tip is attached is designed to bend rather than allow inappropriate force to be applied, but this safety mechanism will not be effective if the force is applied longitudinally along the shaft.

Never move the SpeckGRABBER while it is in contact with a delicate surface. This includes both dragging and twirling motions. Either motion could cause the particle being removed to mar the surface being cleaned.

When not on use, store the SpeckGRABBER in a clean container at room temperature to minimize contamination. Even when properly stored, it is always best to assume that it is contaminated, and clean it prior to using it again.

Cautions
Carefully identify what you are trying to remove. Use good strong lighting, and magnification to properly see what you are doing. Not all things that look like loose particles at first glance are really loose particles.

If a particle does not immediately adhere to the SpeckGRABBER, do not attempt to remove it with either greater pressure or scrubbing. The particle may in fact be a scratch or may be "glued" to the surface. If it is a scratch, the SpeckGRABBER is the wrong tool for the job. If it is "glued" to the surface, use a solvent compatible with the surface to be cleaned and remove the glue and the particle with tools appropriate to this problem, be sure to follow instructions from supplier of those tools. If these cleaning actions result in lint particles left on the surface the SpeckGRABBER will be effective in removing them.

The SpeckGRABBER is an effective tool for the safe, effective removal of loose particles. If you are not removing small loose particles, the SpeckGRABBER is not the right tool.
